New Poll: Nevadans Overwhelmingly Support Clean Energy!
NEVADANS OVERWHELMINGLY SUPPORT CLEAN ENERGY DEVELOPMENT, SURVEY SHOWS
A recent survey of likely Nevada voters shows nearly 75 percent of likely voters support the development of clean energy.
Las Vegas, Nevada – July 13, 2015 – A recent survey paid for by Clean Energy Project (CEP) and conducted by Republican polling company, The Tarrance Group, shows overwhelming support for the state of Nevada to pursue increased renewable energy development. Seventy-four percent of likely voters think that it is appropriate for the government to promote the development and use of renewable energy in Nevada. Seventy-three percent think that Nevada does not rely enough on renewable sources of energy.
“Nevada continually exceeds its renewable energy goals due to innovative policies that harness our tremendous natural resources. The Silver State is a pioneer in the energy sector, and our commitment to renewable energy has added $5.5 billion to our economy in the last five years,” said Governor Sandoval, “I am committed to the continued development of Nevada's energy resources by removing barriers and developing better business models that benefit our ratepayers.”
“The results of the survey confirm what many have thought for quite some time,” said Jennifer Taylor, Executive Director of Clean Energy Project. “Nevadans, regardless of party affiliation, recognize that solar, geothermal and wind resources in the state are plentiful and provide our state a unique and exciting economic opportunity.”
Also notable in the results were that 81 percent think there is solid evidence that the earth’s climate has been changing over the past few decades with two-thirds of Republicans and self-identified conservatives believing this assertion. Ninety-two percent favor allowing homeowners to buy and install their own solar panels for energy production.
Finally, in response to the EPA’s pending rule to decrease carbon pollution from existing power plants, otherwise known as the Clean Power Plan, 66 percent support Nevada developing its plan to meet the goals of the EPA.
About Survey Methodology
This survey interviewed N=500 registered likely voters throughout the state of Nevada. Responses to this survey were gathered June 7-9, 2015. All respondents interviewed in this study were part of a fully representative sample based on the latest voter registration figures within the state. The confidence interval associated with a sample of this type is such that 95% of the time results will be within ±4.5% of the "true values" where "true values" refer to the results obtained if it were possible to interview every “likely” eligible voter in the state.
