2017 was particularly exciting for CEP in that after a one-year hiatus, we relaunched the National Clean Energy Summit with our partner, MGM Resorts International. This year’s Summit was co-hosted by Senator Harry Reid and Governor Brian Sandoval featuring a keynote address by Vice President Al Gore.
The theme of the ninth Summit was “Integrating Innovation,” and speakers and panelists explored how to accelerate the pace of deploying clean energy innovation to transform our energy systems. We heard from former Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz on his innovation agenda, and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro led a bipartisan panel of mayors in an inspiring discussion about municipal clean energy initiatives. Governor Sandoval convened another bipartisan panel, with Governors Charlie Baker (R-MA) and David Ige (D-HI) highlighting how state-level programs are driving economic growth.
The Summit program had an impressive list of industry leaders, clean energy advocates, national security experts and even an artist who documents the growth of renewable energy around the world with aerial photography. The exhibit hall included an autonomous bus, Tesla electric vehicles, and technologies that bring clean energy and clean water to the developing world and disaster areas. The Summit was profiled in top national and local media outlets, including numerous Associated Press stories and more than 80 broadcast hits. Media from top national and local outlets including U.S. News & World Report, Utility Dive, Huffington Post, Bloomberg and Politico, as well as all of the major Nevada publications, attended or tuned in to the livestream, and the Summit garnered almost 3.2 million on-line impressions.
